Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer contributes to the design and development of high‑performance, sustainable water treatment systems, applying sound mechanical engineering principles to deliver efficient and reliable solutions. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from tender and concept design to execution and commissioning, and involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in an international environment. This position combines hands‑on mechanical engineering, digital design, and sustainability, offering opportunities for meaningful technical contribution and professional growth.
Report to: Project Manager
Location: Primarily office-based in Turku, Finland with occasional travel depending on the projects.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
Design and develop static and rotating equipment (tanks, piping, heat exchangers, filtration units).
Prepare and validate 2D/3D drawings and specifications.
Perform mechanical calculations, stress analysis, and equipment sizing.
Planning, Budgeting & Coordination
Support cost estimation, budgeting, and scheduling during proposal and project execution phases.
Coordinate mechanical scope, progress, and interfaces with project management, procurement, and other disciplines to ensure on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
Project Execution
Participate in all engineering phases from concept to commissioning.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems with overall plant design.
Support technical procurement, vendor evaluation, and site inspections.
Sales & Pre-Bid Support
Support the sales team by reviewing tender document specifications, preparing cost-effective designs, and generating preliminary MTOs.
Provide technical input during bid evaluations and proposal engineering.
Innovation, Digitalization & Sustainability
Integrate smart technologies such as IoT sensors and digital twins into mechanical designs.
Utilize modern engineering tools (e.g. BIM, simulations, predictive maintenance concepts)
Contribute to sustainable, energy‑efficient, and circular design practices
Ensure adherence to technical environmental and safety regulations.
Continuous Improvement
Monitor system performance and drive reliability improvements.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement engineering controls.
Capture lessons learned and continuously improve standards and procedures.
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification
Minimum 2 years’ experience in 3D modelling and equipment design (Autodesk Inventor)
Experience in water treatment, process, energy, or similar industrial sectors
Background in bids, proposals, and BOQ/BOM preparation
Strong equipment engineering skills in industrial/process environments
Knowledge of smart systems and sustainable mechanical design (fabrication, assembly, erection)
Fluent English required; advanced Finnish preferred.
Ability to lead mechanical engineering tasks/projects when needed
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills in international, multidisciplinary teams.
